    Description

    LEONHARD MAUSSIELL,
LAUTTEN-und GEIGENMACHER EN NURNBERG (Nuremburg) 1726
A GERMAN VIOLIN MAKER WHO CUSTOM MADE VIOLINS FOR HIS CLIENTS IN THE 18TH CENTURY.
I INHERITED THIS FINE INSTRUMENT FROM MY LATE FATHER in 1990.  IT HAD BEEN IN THE
    FAMILY for 100 YEARS.
A VIDEO RECORDING IS AVAILABLE TO HEAR UPON REQUEST.
I took my violin to the famed violin region of Cremona, Italy, in 2015 where--at a considerable expense--I had it restored by a graduate of the Cremona violin making school. Upon completion of the restoration, and after many years of "quiet", the violin made its debut in the loving hands of a Romanian woman (a classical violinist) as seen in the photos.
I REALIZE that a violin of this
    age,
    quality and workmanship
is typically offered through fine auction houses who
    have
sold Maussiell's works in the past.
*Please read partial communication regarding my inquiry with Tarisio's auction house below.
I am offering it on eBay, however, as an opportunity for the serious collector or musician to buy it directly from the owner, complete with detailed paperwork & photos from the restorer.

    "Dear Mrs. Case;
Indeed we have handled several violins by this relatively rare maker over the years.  Based on the photos you sent, I expect your fiddle to be a finer specimen and that we will be able to set a new record for the maker!....
    Best,
    Colin"
THE VIOLIN WEIGHS JUST UNDER 15 OUNCES.  I BELIEVE IT IS CLASSIFIED AS A 4x4, BUT MEASUREMENTS ARE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.
PLEASE STUDY THE PHOTOS carefully as they speak to the quality and workmanship of this Maussiell work.
As Tarisio's representative stated, it is a "finer specimen" by a "rare maker."
Verification that it is an authentic Maussiell can be seen in photos #4 & #5 taken during the restoration.
Also available is a letter dated 1990 with Sotheby's evaluation of its authenticity and then estimated value; fair to say it has increased considerably in value since then.
I realize that further communication will be necessary, so, if you are a
VIOLINIST OR PRIVATE COLLECTOR (please NO DEALERS)
feel free to send--and I will promptly address--any and all
    SERIOUS
inquiries. I am also happy to provide additional photos upon request, as well as offer my willingness to work out any
    reasonable
arrangements for you to play or have another professional of your choosing play the instrument before purchasing it. In as much as I am NOT a dealer, and CAN NOT PLAY THE VIOLIN, I must offer it AS IS.  I am, however, willing to accompany or meet a buyer at a
    reputable
    dealer in Atlanta,Georgia, to verify
    (
    at the buyer's expense
) the violin's condition before purchasing it.
International buyers will have to make arrangements for someone stateside to pick up the instrument.  I will not assume the responsibility/risk for shipping such a fine & delicate instrument.
I am offering LOCAL PICK UP ONLY either in Hiawassee, Ga., or POSSIBLY IN Charleston, South Carolina, OR at a reputable violin dealer in Atlanta or Charleston, if you have one.
IT IS WITH MEASURED RELUCTANCE that I part with my treasured family heirloom, however, without an heir I am driven by my obligation to see to it that this violin does not "die" and passes to the hands of another worthy caretaker of my choice.
    THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION.
