Description
2x AAA Battery Adapter and Prototype Area (Battery Boost Shield)MIKROE-712
Two AAA batteries are all it takes to bring mobility to your multimedia board.
Battery Boost Shield is an extension board pin-compatible with all standard-sized mikromedia boards (i.e. not the larger mikromedia+ or
mikromedia 5
boards; see below for a list) and
clicker 2
boards. This shield enables autonomous power supply using two AAA batteries. The board features an MCP1640 compact monolithic integrated circuit that provides +4.0V power supply voltage at about 300mA. The MCP1640 is a Step-up DC/DC Regulator with up to 96% Typical Efficiency.
Note:
The picture to the right shows the Battery Boost Shield installed on a mikromedia board for illustration purposes. Batteries are not included, and the board comes without the connectors installed. The connectors and pin headers are included for you to solder to your mikromedia board and to the Battery Boost.
Key Features
MCP1640 Step-up DC/DC Regulator
Prototyping area can be used for placing additional components
Additional connection pins for easier and cleaner connections
Power jumper as an ON/OFF switch.
Key Benefits
Compatible with all standard mikroMMB (MikroMedia Boards) from mikroElektronika
Compatible with clicker 2 boards
Simple integration using provided male and female 1x26 connectors
Cost-effective solution that brings mobility and a stable power supply
Compatible Boards
The pinout and shape of Battery Boost identically matches the pinout and shape of all the mikromedia boards with a green PCB. Those multimedia boards are available with a wide variety of microcontrollers, but all share the same design, LCD touchpanel, and most of the same peripherals. Here is a complete list:
mikromedia for ATmega
mikromedia for Xmega
mikromedia for PIC18FJ
mikromedia for PIC24FJ
mikromedia for PIC24EP
mikromedia for dsPIC33FJ
mikromedia for dsPIC33EP
mikromedia for PIC32
mikromedia for ARM
mikromedia for Stellaris M3
mikromedia for STM32 M3
mikromedia for STM32 M4
mikromedia for Tiva C
mikromedia for PSoC 5LP
This shield also is compatible with
clicker 2
microcontroller boards.
Download Battery Boost Shield User Manual
to see how to connect it to your mikromedia board. Note that the manual refers to an older hardware version. The new version, pictured above, adds through-hole pads for all the headers coming from the mikromedia board, does away with an external power input, and has a more useful silkscreen that shows GND and 3.3V pads (the 3.3V comes back from the mikromedia board, so you'll need to have it connected to utilize those pads).
