    Description

    Jimmy John Signed Hand Carved Cedar Totem Pole Nuu-chah-Nulth Eagle and Whale
    Measures 26” tall with a 3.5” x 3.5” base platform. In exceptional condition, a similar piece sold at auction years ago. Hand signed in ink is very rare. See photos.
    Jimmy John was a well-known and well-liked Nootka artist who began carving in the early 20th century.
    He was once the chief of the Nuu-chah-nulth (Yuquot) tribe of the Western edge and Islands of Vancouver and a carver of totem poles, masks and silver jewelry.
    He was born in Friendly Cove, British Columbia in 1876 and he died in Nanaimo in 1988 at the age of 112.
