    Description

I confess I do not know exactly who made this.  I have seen similar mostly white fetish necklaces with no beads separating the fetishes, and with 'squaw wrap' method of protecting the string between the top fetishes for the portion behind the neck.  Some were identified as Navajo with some historical papers to back them up; some were identified as Zuni, where most fetish necklaces are made.   I have also seen some cheap imports that look similar but I am confident this is not one of those.  I bought this at an antique store in St Petersburg Florida about 30 years ago.  Before the internet, St. Pete was an ideal place to look for old pieces of Native American jewelry and small items because it was such a popular retirement community - treasures tended to end up there.
Rough count 87 figures in this necklace.  Hand carved. Several different kinds of birds, turtles, rams, rabbits, and other animals.  The central bear measures 1.25".  About 32 inches around.
