silverplate pepper mill.
This is a c1920's silverplated Christofle pepper mill with acorn finial and Peugeot works. It bears the Christofle Paris marks for pre-1938 manufacture and is marked with
CHRISTOFLE
. There is a 7 digit serial number beginning with a 2 on the base which suggests a c1920's date. The grinder mechanism is marked with
PEUGEOT FRERES BREVETE SS G.D.G
. Peugeot Freres was established in France in the 1840's, and is world renowned for cars, coffee grinders & pepper mills, among other products. Brevete SS G.D.G means patented without guarantee of the government. The government does not guarantee that the item is a novel design.
The pepper grinder measure about 3 3/4 inches tall and weigh about 204 grams. It has a number of minor dings and dents, though it does not appear to me to have been used, but no real damage. It is monogrammed inside a fancy cartouche.
